The Hero of Little Street By Phoebe Hussey

The Hero of Little Street is a fabulous Comic Style book from the book week 'Best Picture Book' Short List for 2010.It was written by Gregory Rogers and Published by 'Allen and Unwin' in 2009.

The Hero of little Street is a hilarious, adventurous, comic style book about a cheeky little boy who gets stuck in a painting from the 18th century, running away from a group of bullies! With a few twists and turns along the way, this book is generally funny and very adventurous.

I extremely enjoyed 'The hero of little Street' and believe it was a very imaginitive and heart warming book, as there is an obivious bond between the boy and the little brown dog from the painting. I would recommend this book for classes 3 and up. As there are no picture's and it could be hard for a younger class to comprehend.

Review: Shumann the Shoeman

Shumann the Shoeman was written by John and Stella Danalis, it was shortlisted by the childrens book council 2010.

'Shumann the Shoeman' captures the life of a prestigous shoeman in a large town, little does he know, a large shoe factory has recentley opened across the road from his modest shop. Shumann is stunned, all his buyers had been hood winked!!, he decides to move to a small forest area he makes many new friends but little does he know something terrible is about to happen to Shumann leaving many of his friends devestated.

I strongly believe Shumann the shoeman is a wonderful book for children who love unique and quirky books and dream of creating art. I would rate it 10/10 as it is a wonderful book, although if I were the author I would change the ending when Shumann dies as I believe many young children would become upset!. I believe children 8+ should read this book,

Mr Chicken Goes To Paris

Mr Chicken Goes To Paris

(Monsier Poulet va a' Paris)

For book week there were several books of a high standard, that I enjoyed. There was one book that stood out it was "Mr Chicken goes to Paris".Over all it was my favourite book. it is by the well known author Leigh Hobbs, who has written other short listed books.

I particularly loved this book because of it's cultural view of Paris.I have been to Paris before and have experienced these all these places.the other thing I liked about the cultural aspect is the language,on the tour buses and the post cards everything is french!

Mr chicken is such a character! even though he is a softy on the inside. His moody chicken face is what brings the paparazzi coming.

I believe that this book can be enjoyed by all people but would be particularly enjoyed by 5-8 year olds.

Steve's Review On The Bear And The Chook

Bear And The Chook

One of my favourite books from book week is The Bear And The Chook it was written by Lisa Shanahan and illustrated by Emma Quay. The reason I like this book is because it has lots of repetition. Because on every page at the beginning it says flomp, flomp, scratch, scratch, flomp, flomp, scratch.

Another thing I like about the book is that every time the chook says I want to go home they reach there new destination. Something else I like about the book is at the end when they finally make it to the beach, the bear gets hit by a wave so they go back home and this time its the opposite. The bear is saying I want to go home but the chook says we have reached our destination. I liked the illustrations because it looked like what ever they used to do it they took their time.

Bear and Chook by the sea by Benji

My favourite book for book week is bear & chook by the sea. The reason why I like this book is that bear at the start he was full of nature. Another reason why I like it was because on the way to the sea chook was scared but bear was scared on the way back. The thing I want to ask why bear thought he was not afraid of anything.

Bear And Chook by the sea By Raja

One of my favourite books from book week is bear and chook by the sea . The writer is Lisa Shanahan and the illustrator is Emma Quay.

I really like this book because it is really funny because in the beginning bear says to chook lets go to the sea and chook says wheres the sea and bear says its around the pound under the bridge through the forest and over the mountain. What said chook that's so far away far for a chook but short for a bear. On the way to the beach they went round the pond chook herd a sound that was like this honky-tonk-tonk-tonk-tonk! whats that said chook its a frog said bear. They went under the bridge and chook herd rickety-clickety-rickety-clickety chook says i want to go home but bear says look there is the mountain ping ting ting ting chook herd all those funny noise and they finally came to the beach then bear goes in the water and gets dunked and the same thing happens but its bear who does it this time. I also like the illustrations because it really explains the story as well as the the writing.

Fearless By Alex in Year 3

My favourite book from book week is Fearless written by Colin Thompson and illustrated by Sarah Davis.

I like this book because the pictures are very detailed and good.

I like this book because the pictures are the opposite to the text.

I like this book because the picture make Fearless look cute because bull dogs doesn't normally look cute.

The Terrible Plop by Christina.B

My favourite book from book week is The Terrible Plop by Ursula Dubosarsky. I like this book because it is a rhyming book and it is also funny because a little rabbit is afraid of "The Terrible Plop" and in the end, the rabbit doesn't care but the bear is terrified!

It is interesting because for the bears fur she used real fur and for the chocolate cake she used real cake.I love the illustrations because they are nice and simple.

I recommend this book for ages 5 and up.

By Christina.B

Kip by Georgina

I think this book is creative because it has colourful pictures and I also liked the part when Kip says cock a doodle do because the title looks fancy. It has lots of nice pictures and some of the characters are: Mrs Bea, Kip, grandma, little Lucy Cooper, Mrs piper, baby Piper, Mr Hill, farmer Hunt. It is a nice book because it has lots of nice pictures.

The Wrong Book by Lara

My favourite book from book week is the wrong book by Nick Bland.
One of the reasons why the wrong book is my favourite is because it uses lots of charaters that you wouldn't normally use like an elephant!!

I also like how it repeats the first sentence so you don't know what your up for!! This book is for all ages because it has very simple sentences, not complicated ones which make young readers enjoy and understand the book. When I first read the book with my class I was very surprised I thought the book would be boring but is wasn't. I recommend this book for all ages even adults would like the book. There is no negative comments from me on this book!

The wrong book by JOSH in year 3

One of my favourite books from book week is The wrong book. This is because Nick Bland draws and writes funny pictures and comments from the characters. Nicholas Ickle is funny because his face shows his anger and it is funny because one of the monsters jumps on Nicholas hat and the other one is the other monster looks up the the elephant's trunk. This book should have an other ending. Like every one goes back on stage and holds up the letters from the wrong book.

To the top end of Australia by Michael Brancalion

I like this book because the writer has chosen the most suitable words for the pages and he has also drawn excellent pictures that match the sentence perfectly. Its funny even though there aren't many words. I also like how it is written, it looks like a child's holiday journal. It is funny in some bits where it might say something but the opposite is close by in the illustration, E.g. it might say there are no such thing as sea monsters but there will be a sea monster close by.

This book is written and illustrated by Roland Harvey, I don't like how the words are kind of spaced out and I got lost in the words a little bit.

The Wrong Book By Caitlin-Rose Brincat

b
One of my favourite books from book week is The Wrong Book by Nick Bland. One of the reasons why I like that book is because it's about a little boy who's trying to tell a story. Also what I liked about the book is that there is a lot of characters such as a monster,a queen and also some rat's . My favourite part of the book was when Nicholas Ickle said my name is Nicholas Ickle and this book is about a queen that bit was really funny.I also liked the pictures in the book they were good and i liked the facial expressions as well. The wrong book is a wonderful book to read.

The Scorpian By Jamie

The Scorpion

A hundred million years ago there existed a scorpion. The scorpion was outstanding at camouflage. One day the scorpion set off to find some treasure. Every two miles he came across a beast. The first beast he had to pass whore gold armour and a silver s word. The scorpion tried to sting him with his outstanding tail, but it didn’t work. Then the scorpion bit him and the beast died. He walked another two miles, suddenly another beast stood before him. The beast had black armour but the scorpion had a secret sword. The beast and the scorpion had a sword fight. The scorpion jumped up and stabbed the beast and then started digging for treasure and found a chest full of gold. He brought it home with him and was very generous in sharing his chest of gold, bringing him fantastic fortune and much pleasure to the end of his days.

By Federico Anderson

My holidays were very interesting. I spent almost all the time at LOOSH because I am going on holidays in August to China.
At LOOSH we did ice skating. We went to see The Magic Pudding. We went to Centre Point Tower. I hardly ever go ice skating so that was a lot of fun. The Magic Pudding was very funny. I have not been to Centre Point Tower in a long time.
I saw Everton play Sydney FC. Everton won one – nil. We were sitting right in front of the goal and saw Everton score. The scorer for Everton was number 22. Sydney had two really good shots but they were straight at the keeper.
I played soccer on two Saturdays. We played two Enfield teams. One game was 1 – 1. The other game we lost 4 - 1.
I visited my Nanna and we saw The Karate Kid at the movies. Nanna made great chocolate muffins for me. I also bought some FIFA DVDs and the old Karate Kid DVDs.
Mum was away for the second week of the holidays. I felt sad she was gone but we spoke each night.
Thankyou for listening all about my holidays.

My holidays By Jamie

My Holidays

On Saturday 26th July 2010, I played soccer and won 5 – 4. When I got home with my family, I played with Molly (my dog) when we finished playing I had a shower and relaxed while mum packed to go to granddads in the Blue Mountains. My mum came, my sister came and my dog and cat came. When we got there we unpacked our luggage and explored granddads property.
The next day we played on the farm and climbed trees. We found some things that belonged to granddads in his private dump.
On Tuesday we went to the Zig Zag railway it was really fun because we learnt a lot about steam trains and other trains.
On Wednesday we chilled out and played with a billy cart. It was really fun playing with the billy cart because I went down a really steep hill which made the cart go fast.
On Thursday we went to see the Three Sisters and we got to go on a special train called the scenic railway that goes down a cliff, it was very steep. To get back up we went on the scenic cable way it went back up the cliff and dropped us off at the top, then we went back to granddads.
On Friday my aunty came up and we had a grape fruit fight, I hit her with a grape fruit and won the battle.
On Saturday we had to leave granddads it was sad that we had to go. To conclude I had the best holiday ever.

Blogging

A blog is a online journal, it can even be your own private diary. Once you are finished writing it you publish it but before you publish it you have to edit your work so there are no capitals or full stops in the right or wrong spot. One thing you could do is add stuff to it like pictures, videos and more.

I have finished writing one to David ledge, and he wrote the book bamboozled. It’s a really funny book. I have even published it and added a picture. I have started one but I haven’t finished it, and I wrote about Jeff Kidney and he writes really funny books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid. In the future I might make my own diary, or journal. I won’t tell anyone except for my mum. Blogging helps me learn in away that you are free to write about anything, when you are allowed.

A Blog is like a workbook on the internet with a post which is a place where who you write.
To create a Blog you click new post and write what you want to write for example I want to write a Blog to Roald Dahl about the book Fantastic Mr Fox as it was very funny, but also scary.
Blogging helps me learn, and it helps me to type faster, and publish my work. I can see how my friends did with their Blog by reading other posts.
One Blog that I am still writing is Bamboozled and after Bamboozled I am going to write one on Fantastic Mr Fox.
I want to add to my Blog is a movie, more interesting comments and one of my funny jokes.

Amber's Review

At moment I'm reading Go Girl Besties Beach Break. It's about, these two girls Shae and Michiko going over to their friend Mia's Beach House but Shae and Michiko are acting weird and it's up to Mia to find out what's going on with them.

I for one liked this book because it's with some people do some weird stuff and I also liked it because it was abit suspicious with Mia trying to figure out why Shae and Michiko were acting weird.

Dear Cressida Cowell,
I love your Hiccup books but I have only read "How to train your dragon" but I want to read them all.I loved this book but I was really scared and sad that Toothless was going to die, at the end when they were sending him away on the boat for the funeral. Then I got so excited when he came back up and started flying back to Hiccup. I really want to read your other Hiccup books.
Now I want to ask you some questions.
The first question I want to ask you is how old are you now?
The second question I want to ask you is where do you live?
The third question I want to ask you is what gave you the inspiration to write about dragons?
The fourth question I want to ask you is what made you come up with the characters names like Hiccup?
The last question I want to ask you is what is your favourite Hiccup book?

I love your book Beast Quest. I think it' really interesting because it looks like Tom is going to die but he survives. Now I have questions for you, do you have any kids? Do they like your books? how many books are you going to write? I like how you say the beasts name and what they are, like Rashouk the cave troll, I think that's really cool. I have a few more questions for you. How old are your children if you have any? How old were you when you started writing Beast Quest? How old are you now? How did you come up with the names Tom, Elenna, Storm and Silver? how did you get the title of Beast Quest? I like how Tom and Elenna win prizes after they defeat a beast. I just finished the book called Mortaxe: The skeleton warrior.

After that you type up your blog and when you don’t want to do it anymore, you can name it what ever you want. Then click on save as draft. Next if you want to get back on the blog you click on edit draft. When you’re finished you can edit it. Then you can get a picture for it and put it on the blog. After that you click on post blog and then it is posted.

I think that blogging helps me to learn my typing skills and my hand co ordinations.

I made a blog called “Tom’s Bamboozled letter” and I thought it was a bit complicated, but it was fun in the end.

In the future I will add a video talking about all the fun things you can do on a blog.

A blog is like a diary that you can look at on the Internet instead of a book.

To make a blog you need to type in http://stfiacresguidedreading.blogspot.com in your URL then you need to log onto blogger, go onto new post, write your letter, check if you’ve got correct spelling and punctuation if you want to edit a post then when you log on you go edit post instead of new post, then once you’ve finished you save it then you go on publish post. If you want to look at your post you go on home page.

The reason why blogging helps me is because I learn how to type faster and blogging also helps me because you’re learning about books you haven’t read when you look at somebody else’s post.

The Adventures of Jessica on Sea

TODAY there IS a girl named Jessica Watson, and she sailed all around the world by herself.
One day, when she was sailing she came across a really big storm and she got through it. A couple of day’s later; she bumped into a cargo ship from China, and got away with it. When she left Sydney Harbour, this is the way she went. She sailed through the Tasman Sea, then the Indian Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, and then the Pacific Ocean and then back to Australia. One day she ran out of ‘nutella’so she had to eat boring fruit. When she came through the harbour, there was a really big celebration ship and heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaps of boats. One day there was a girl named Abby Sunderland, and she tried to beat Jessica’s record but she didn’t because she fell over by 11mt waves and helped her sailing boat get back up.
